Blog Entry: Blog. Now into October and the annual pre-Christmas Shoebox Appeals time. Focusing on those even more worse off than ourselves helps us start preparing for the first or yet another Christmas without our loved ones and warms our hearts as we imagine some poverty stricken family or serviceman far from home, opening our lovingly prepared box at Christmas time. See our Newsletter under 'Publications' for more information or do a Google search on the Internet. Widowed friends, other supporters and I prepared 25 boxes last year and we're set to exceed that figure this October. A local surgical shoe maker has guaranteed all the boxes we can fill and we have several Romanian young people working locally coming to share their first hand accounts of life in parts of Eastern Europe. Another widowed lady has a grandson fighting in Afghanistan and tells us just how much the boxes are appreciated by our soldiers. This really is a case of 'thinking outside and inside the box'.
